Junior Rowing in the Princeton Area:

Mercer Juniors

The Mercer Junior Rowing Club (MJRC) was founded by The Princeton National Rowing Association in 2002. MJRC is a high performance youth rowing team that serves students from the greater Mercer County area. The MJRC rows out of the Caspersen Rowing Center on Mercer Lake in Mercer County Park ans is open to all high school students whose school do not have their own rowing teams. Historically MJRC has provided rowing opportunities to students from over twenty-five different high schools in addition to some home school students.

MJRC provides a competitive and fun rowing program that encourages and emphasizes good sportsmanship and individual responsibility. Team members are encouraged to achieve personal as well as team goals. Through regularly scheduled practices, MJRC will improve the physical fitness of our youth through physical training and goal setting.

The MJRC coaching staff includes current and former US team athletes who are certified by the USRowing Coaches Education Program. They provide assurances that the time children spend rowing will be quality time.
The MJRC team is composed of both varsity and beginner athletes, known as novices. No experience is necessary to be a novice rower. MJRC is a co-ed team but the boys and girls compete separately and in novice and varsity squads. All technical and conditioning training is introduced over the first year as a novice. After one year of rowing experience, athletes move up to the varsity squad.

MJRC strives to compete at the highest level both regionally and nationally. The coaches will work to instill and enhance the athlete's self-esteem, self-discipline, team reliance and personal fitness through a rigorous 6 day a week training program. Rowing is the ultimate team sport and our program will teach valuable skills of teamwork, dedication, accountability, sportsmanship, athleticism, motivation, confidence, perseverance, goal setting, time management, and the rewards of hard work. There are no super stars in rowing. It takes everyone on the team to make a crew successful. The skills learned in rowing will carry them through their lives in whatever they pursue.
