  • “Rapturous and profound” in the words of The New York Times, the dancer / choreographer Aparna Ramaswamy brings her acclaimed solo work They Rose at Dawn to the Berlind. In the classic South Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam, the body is material—an interlocking puzzle of pieces assembled to create otherworldly grace. In her solo, women are depicted as carriers of ritual who navigate inner and outer worlds as they invoke a sense of reverence, unfolding mystery and imagination. A Carnatic musical ensemble accompanies Ramaswamy as she explores the spontaneous interplay between music and movement and the dynamic contours created by the artist onstage.
