  • The Emerson String Quartet, celebrating their fortieth anniversary, joins a star-studded cast of actors for a groundbreaking multimedia theatrical realization that weaves the tale of Dmitri Shostakovich’s quest to create an opera from Anton Chekhov's short story, The Black Monk. The piece, incorporating the composer’s 14th String Quartet, traces Shostakovich’s persistent attempts to retell Chekhov's haunting and heroic story of a writer struggling for his sanity and survival amid the ever-changing imperatives of Stalin's Soviet state.
