Township of Plainsboro
Plainsboro Township is a dynamic community located midway between New York and Philadelphia that has successfully made the transition from a rural farming community to a vibrant, diverse community of 21,000 people. The result of the township's careful planning is a balance of open space and development, with over 50% of the Township permanently preserved as open space. The New Jersey Transit and Amtrak station in Princeton Junction is approximately 2-3 miles away. Plainsboro Village, the original settlement in the Township with buildings dating from the 18th Century, is benefiting from controlled growth that is guided by the Plainsboro Village Area Master Plan. The Plan calls for the preservation of the Village's historic character while introducing appropriate and attractive commercial and residential development to help the Village become the center of community life. This new Village Center of mixed-use development is currently under construction, and will serve as the focal point of the Township. In addition to retaining its agricultural roots, today's Plainsboro has become a center for major corporate office and research facilities (such as Bristol-Myers Squibb, Munich Rensurance America, Princeton Plasma Physics Lab, Firmenich, and Novo Nordisk). Plainsboro will soon be home to the new University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Plainsboro has varied housing opportunities that mark the area as a desirable home for a wide range of lifestyles. There are single-family homes of various sizes, apartments, condos and town homes, senior housing and affordable housing, and historic/older homes and neighborhoods. The West Windsor-Plainsboro School district reflects the lifestyle of a community that takes pride in its continuing tradition of academic and cultural achievement. The Plainsboro Preserve is approximately 1,000 acres of undisturbed open space with nature trails, and has an Environmental Education Center that is one of nine of the New Jersey Audubon Society's nature centers in the state.
