Princeton Festival of the Arts

The countdown is on for Communiversity, one of Central New Jersey's most well-known events and beloved annual traditions. This year's celebration of the arts is slated for Sunday, April 27, 2014 (rain or shine), from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Presented by the Arts Council of Princeton and the students of Princeton University, the event originated as "The Art People's Party" on the lawn of Nassau Hall in 1970. Later renamed Communiversity to capture the Town-Gown spirit of the event, the popular arts festival has grown to attract more than 35,000 visitors to Princeton, NJ each spring.

Communiversity Festival of the Arts 2014 will feature more than 200 artists, crafters, and merchants from around the tri-state area; continuous live entertainment on five stages; children's activities and games; a wide array of delicious food from around the globe; and a broad representation of the many businesses and organizations that play a prominent role in the vibrant life of the Princeton community.

The event takes place in downtown Princeton on Nassau and Witherspoon Streets, in Palmer Square (on the Green), and throughout the University campus.

Public parking is available in lots and garages located on Chambers Street, Hulfish Street (next to Halo Pub), and Spring Street. Additional parking can be found on side streets throughout town.

Admission to the event is free for the public.

More bus service and parking planned for Communiversity

The Princeton freeB Task Force has announced that there will be additional bus service and parking for the Communiversity celebration in downtown Princeton on Sunday, April 27th. An additional freeB bus and two additional park and ride locations will be added to the event route this year to handle demand. The two-freeB buses will circulate every 15 minutes throughout town on the special Communiversity route. Passengers may board the buses at one of the three park'n'ride locations, marked freeB bus stops or anywhere along the route where it is safe to do so.

The Princeton municipal parking lot at 400 Witherspoon, Princeton Shopping Center and Community Park - North will serve as park'n'ride locations. The bus ride and parking are free. Those parking at Princeton Shopping Center are asked not to park in areas posted with a "Customer Parking Only" sign.

"Last year was the first year the bus service was offered and the response to the service was overwhelmingly positive", said Cheryl Kastrenakes Executive Director of Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association (a member of the freeB Task Force). "We wanted to build on its success and meet demand by adding additional bus service and parking".

The first scheduled trip from Princeton Shopping center is at 12:30 PM. The last trip back from the Communiversity bus stop at Wiggins and Witherspoon is at 5:25 PM.

Starting at the bus stop sign at Princeton Shopping Center, the freeB bus route travels along Valley Road to Witherspoon to Princeton Municipal complex to Wiggins/Robeson (Communiversity stop), turns right on Hodge to Elm Road, right on Elm Road to Mountain Avenue where it will enter Community Park - North parking lot, the bus will then return to Princeton Shopping Center and start over.

In addition to the Communiversity day freeB bus route, Stout's Transportation operates the regular daytime freeB service on Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays on behalf of the Municipality of Princeton.
